My journey as a writer began in the late 1980s when I self-published a series of books about toads to an audience of my parents and their friends.
I took a circuitous route to communications, passing through 12 years in the apparel industry, where I served as an intermediary between clients like Tommy Hilfiger, American Eagle, and Polo Ralph Lauren and their manufacturers and vendors from around the world. Although my primary responsibilities were in sales and marketing, I dabbled in graphic design, project management, merchandising, and product development. I also travelled a whole lot.
In 2016 my bleeding heart got the better of me, and I completed a second B.A. in Psychology en route to a mid-career 180 into the nonprofit world.
Over the last nine years, I’ve written everything from press releases and pitches to academic publications; I’ve ghostwritten content for major national outlets, contributed to a landmark textbook, and helped design and build a comprehensive communications strategy for an international mental health training organization.
As a freelancer I’ve worked on executive talking points, newsletters, social strategy and content, people spotlights, blogs, and articles for both internal and external stakeholders on topics ranging from corporate business technology to mobile bars.
I love learning a new topic and understanding it well enough to explain it in plain language. I am skilled at speaking in the voice of an individual or organization, incorporating nuances in tone and word choice. I love pulling meaningful stories from dry data points. And as an editor, I enjoy patiently molding a piece many times over until it’s perfect.
How can I help you tell your stories?
